About Us
Mings Optical has been providing Comprehensive Eye Care Services for over 30 years. After returning from University in England, Dr. Michele Ming opened Mings Optical in January 1990 in Georgetown, offering a wide range of optical services. A state-of-art lab was ordered and a technician was flown in from Coburn Technologies in the USA to install the first automated formless lens machinery in Guyana.
In 2011, an Optical branch was opened in Parika to cater to the people from the Essequibo Region and interior locations. This is about an hour's drive from the capital and one has to cross the Demerara Floating Bridge. Sunday is the main Market Day with people coming from the mainland and by boat from the surrounding Leguan, Wakenaam, and Hogg Islands. Sundays are our busiest clinic day and even the Banks and shopping malls are open. In 2018, this branch was moved to a new building in Lotus Mall to provide more space and comfort for the patients.
In 2013, our third practice was opened in RoseHall in Berbice. This is about 2 hours from Georgetown and one has to cross the Berbice Floating bridge after a scenic drive past the coconut plantations, rice, and sugar fields. This branch has now outgrown its building and from November 2021, new premises will be occupied with increased eye testing rooms, spacious waiting areas, and extra facilities offering the same excellent customer service. The fourth Optical was opened in June 2021 in Mon Repos Mall, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara. This is located behind the Mon Repos market and offers comprehensive eye care services so that patients no longer have to travel to Georgetown.
Mings Optical has continued to grow and expand and this could not have been possible without the support of our dedicated, hard-working staff and very loyal patients and friends.
